AN ANTIQUES Roadshow US guest was left shocked to find out her husband's old junk was worth a fortune.

The woman brought a glass bird ornament from the 1960s to be valued by expert Arlie Sulka.

The guest explained that the item was given to her by her ex mother-in-law.

“She brought it to me from Italy and it’s by a sculptor named Vistosi, I don’t know much more about him," explained the woman.

Sulka spoke about the history of the ornament and why it's so unique.

The expert said: “His name is Pulcino and Pulcino means young chicken or chick.

“And if you look at him, he really does look like a cute little 1960s chicken.

“Vistosi was the company that made this but it was actually designed by a young designer named Alessandro Pianon.

“He came to the company in 1956 and he didn’t design this until about 1963.

“When he was hired in 1956, he had already attended school to become an architect and designer and he was hired to design the company’s logo and produce designs that would be made in glass.

“This was probably the most successful line of design, the designs of birds, and there were other ones but I think this one’s particularly charming.”

Sulka revealed the bird body was made out of it murrine glass.

When it came to revealing how much it's worth, Sulka told the guest: "In a retail venue, this would sell in the neighbourhood of $7,500.”

The lady was thrilled with the valuation.

"Oh my goodness, that's a real shocker," the guest exclaimed.

Sulka said: “Aren’t you glad you held onto it?”, to which the guest responded: “I am, I threw away the husband but I kept the statue.”

“I think you won!” Sulka joked before adding: “Every time I look at this piece, I just want to smile.”
